What’s happening this coming December on the 21st? Well, the Mayan long- count calendar ended on this date. The Mayan Indians had three different calendars and the long-count calendar was one of them. People are predicting the world will end on that day.

I’ve heard that our sun will be in the center of the universe on that date and this will cause huge solar flares. These flares will raise the temperature of the earth causing global warming (not due to the green house effect). The ice caps will melt and the oceans will rise. Yellowstone National Park will explode into a giant volcano and California will sink into the ocean. The earth will stop rotating and we’ll float off into outerspace. If any of these things happen, I don’t think stocking up on water and peanut butter will help. But then again, there were predictions made that the Earth would end on May 21st, 2011.

Some scholars of Mayan culture have said that this date referred to the end of an era and that a great change will occur. But what change? Will vistors from another planet arrive? Will Christ return to take the Christians to heaven and signal the beginning of the apocalypse? Whatever happens will be God’s will, and I’m sure our Creator is not going to destroy the world.

One of the things predicted for 2012 was that a blue star would hit our planet. There was a large asteroid headed our way– 433 Eros. It was predicted to reach our planet in 2012. But it missed us by less than seventeen million miles. Wow, that was very close! I’ve also read that the sun will flip its magnetic poles this year. But this occurs after every eleven-year sunspot cycle. Some say Nostradamus made predictions for this date and others say he didn’t. Actually, no one knows what will really happen on December 21st. We’ll just have to wait and see.

I’ll either celebrate Christmas this year or be in Heaven serving my Lord. That’s a win-win option for me. I personally believe December the 22nd will roll around like it always has. I don’t think I’ll be living in a cave wishing I’d stocked up on water and peanut butter.

Matthew 6:34 — ” Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
